A memorial tree has been planted in remembrance of the late Ron Lardner as part of a morning tea to acknowledge Oberon volunteers who give their time to help Oberon Council.
The Wollemi Pine was planted by Ron’s wife Veronica and members of Oberon Council to acknowledge Ron’s selfless contribution to Oberon Council through volunteering at the CTC.
The tree was accompanied by a memorial plaque.
Ron was among a number of volunteers from the Oberon Library, the CTC and the Care Car who were recognised by the Council for their contribution at the morning tea.
Mayor Keith Sullivan said Ron Lardner was a driving force in bringing technology to the forefront.
Oberon council general manager Bruce Fitzpatrick said Ron was a tremendous contributor to the education of people.
Mr Fitzpatrick said all of the volunteers need to be recognised for giving their time unpaid.
He said that in cases such as the care car, it is a great service for Oberon made possible only by volunteers.
Ron’s wife Veronica said Ron loved what he did and would be looking down saying: “I don’t deserve all this.”
