The Tarana community is asking for help in restoring their charming Anglican Church before it deteriorates further. The historic St Stephen’s Church has stood in the village for 125 years, serving the close-knit local community since it was built in 1885 by the members of the local progress association.
But the lovely church is beginning to deteriorate, with the damp course and flashing needing replacement and the interior in desperate need of painting.
The church is the only remaining church in the village after the Catholic and Uniting churches closed some years ago.
The church still hosts services on the third Sunday of every month, as well as special services at Christmas and Easter and, of course, baptisms, weddings and funerals.
It is a special church, as all denominations are welcome to attend and often people from all denominations attend the services.
The community is in need of support and is now appealing for donations to fund work on the church.
All donations will be placed in the St Stephen’s Church restoration fund and will be fully acknowledged.
There will soon be a raffle in Tarana businesses to raise funds for the much-needed restoration.
Donations can also be mailed to Mr J. Austen, PO Box 1799, Bathurst NSW 2795 or left at Tarana businesses.
For more information please contact Jeff Austen on 63343860, Elizabeth Ross on 63375555 or Janifer Torner, rector’s warden, on 63363191.
Please help this great cause, and help restore the last church in the village of Tarana.
