OBERON High School’s new principal David Scott is impressed with his new school, which is high praise coming from a man who has worked in schools right across the state.
Before launching his teaching career, David worked in satellite communications for six years.
It was teaching sailing to the Scouts which sparked his desire to be a teacher, and he trained as a primary school teacher and taught for four years.
David then began teaching Industrial Arts at a high school in Sydney, and then headed west to be head teacher at Broken Hill.
Being head teacher in Orange from 1996 until 2004 acclimatised David to cooler areas (for which now he’ll be thanking his lucky stars) before becoming principal at Yeoval Central School for four years.
If all this experience isn’t enough, David has held positions such as consultant and education director, where he took care of up to 33 schools at a time.
Now settled into his new post at Oberon, David is keen to be back being a principal of a secondary school, and is very excited to be in Oberon.
“Oberon has always really appealed to me," he said.
David said he has found the staff at the school to be exceptionally professional and enthusiastic.
“They seem really committed to the welfare and education of their students,” he said.
The students have made a good impression, with David describing them as very polite and friendly.
David said he enjoys working with secondary students, having five children of his own, three of whom are currently at university.
“I am well aware of the joys and tribulations of being a parent of young adults,” he said.
David is impressed with the programs already in place at the school, such as the musical and industry links programs, and is looking forward to advancing the school.
He has expressed a sincere wish to become acquainted with the community and parents of his students.
“I am really pleased to be here and am looking forward to meeting everyone,” he said.
