Rock set to help improve water quality

21 Jan, 2010 08:09 AM
A massive rock has been delivered to The Common for use as part of a water circulation system.

Oberon Council acting general manager Leigh Robins said the system has been designed to improve the water quality in the three dams scattered throughout The Common.

Mr Robins said a submersible solar pump would also be installed in the lower dam.

A hole will be drilled through the rock and a pipe fed through to allow it to become a delivery point for the water.

Once work is finished only half of the rock will be visible and it will be surrounded by water, making it a very attractive feature of The Common.

Mr Robins said the project was part council's Common embellishment work.

It will take a couple of months to complete.

The rock was obtained from Oberon Quarry and weighs about 20 tonnes.
