Pool backs new CPR initiative to help save lives

19 Nov, 2009 08:20 AM
It has been a sizzling start to the season with extreme hot temperatures – the Oberon Pool is the place to be!

The Oberon Pool Complex has joined forces with Royal Lifesaving to support PROJECT 50,000.

This is Australia’s largest CPR initiative. During the months of November and December Royal Lifesaving, along with Community Pools, is seeking to train 50,000 people in CPR.

This lifesaving skill can be learnt in the comfort of your own home with CPR in a box, available at the Oberon Pool Complex.

Oberon Pool Complex will launch PROJECT 50,000 along with Keep Watch Initiative on November 28 and 29.

Activities for the weekend include:

n Free information hand outs to assist parent/guardians with active supervision.

n Free DVD’s for parents “Kids Alive”.

n CPR demonstrations.

n Free Pool Play sessions.

n For more information please inquire at the pool.

Drowning remains a significant cause of preventable death, particularly in children aged under five years. Parents and carers can reduce this risk and provide their children with protection by heeding some basic actions including;

n active supervision whenever in, on or around water,

n restricting the child’s access to water,

n taking the child to water familiarisation lessons

n learning CPR.

Last year 302 Australians lost their lives to drowning, and 50 of them were children.

There are still bookings available for swimming lessons. Enrolments are available at the Oberon Council and Pool Complex.

Stuck on ideas for Christmas presents? Why not purchase a Dolphin Swim School Voucher. It is a great gift where the receiver will learn valuable skills for life. Gift Vouchers are available at the Oberon Council and Pool Complex.
