Plans for stormwater harvesting dam timely

11 Mar, 2010 07:57 AM
With the dam plunging below 10 per cent again this week, the planned stormwater harvesting dam could not come at a better time.

Preliminary plans for the 40 megalitre dam to supply Oberon’s timber complex are underway, and include a dam being constructed on the unnamed creek on the south side of Queen Street.

Water will then be piped to the corner of Lowes Mount Road and Albion Street, where a 40 megalitre turkey nest storage will be constructed.

The water will be treated in a treatment facility that will be located with the turkey nest and then transported to the timber complex for use.

Council is waiting for approval of the plans and then will be calling for tenders for the pump station and treatment plant.

While this system will take care of water for the timber industry, there are still no plans on the horizon to make changes to water allocations of Oberon Dam to ensure the town has a continued water supply. If the dam drops less than another two per cent, Oberon will be placed on Level 7 water restrictions.
