Plan to have a say

05 Dec, 2008 07:36 AM
Oberon ratepayers will have a second opportunity to ask questions of council's planning consultant about the Draft Land Use Issues paper.

Community members are invited to attend a meeting at 7pm tonight at Oberon Public School, while another will be held at Burraga Sport and Recreation Hall on Monday from 7pm.

These information sessions follow two meetings earlier this week in Black Springs and O’Connell.

The Oberon Council’s Director of Development Ralph Tambasco said the Department of Planning has yet to approve the paper which will list issues and constraints within the region and ways to best manage them.

The subdivision of rural lands, for instance, is one example.

“The document will look at planning issues in Oberon and how we think the shire should develop,” Mr Tambasco said.

“A lot of the contents of the issues paper will be included in council’s land use strategy.

“There will be further consultation prior to the adoption of the strategy,” Mr Tambasco said.

Once the Land Use Strategy has been completed it will form the basis of council’s new Local Environmental Plan (LEP). Oberon’s new LEP is expected to be in place by June 2009.
