There are just over 20 weeks to the 2010 Oberon Show – so it's time to plan and plant for the pavilion classes.
President of the Show Society Ladies' Auxiliary, Marj Whalan, said this week that entrants who intend to put their garden produce, flowers, baking, art or craft on display next February should already be considering what they intend to enter.
"With spring now here, certainly the flower and vegetable growers should be starting to make their plans and tend to their plants and seedlings so we can have another fine display," she said.
"We have just over 300 classes in all the pavilion sections, so there is plenty of choice for those who wish to enter. In addition, next year we shall have a new section for artificial flowers. The auxiliary is introducing this interest following a number of requests, so we are sure we shall have a strong entry."
Marj suggested that cake makers, knitters and crocheters consider entering the two classes which could lead to them exhibiting at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney.
Winners of the rich fruit cake and woollen article or garment competitions at the Show are invited to go forward to the Agricultural Societies of NSW zone final, and if again successful, go on to compete at the Sydney Show.
"We have people talented enough in the district to make a real go of these sections," Marj said. "We have had a healthy number of entries in previous years, but there is no reason why we should not aim for even more."
The auxiliary is always looking for new members, so anyone interested should contact Marj on 0418 169 853. Next year's Oberon Show will be held on February 20-21.
