Oberon to come alive in February 2010

22 Oct, 2009 09:11 AM
Imagine Oberon Village as it was in the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s when our lifestyle was gentle and conversation was a simple pleasure that whiled away the hours.

Be transported back to that simple life and rediscover Oberon and Villages country charm on February 19-21 next year. Oberon will come alive with vintage and veteran cars, trucks and machines appearing on our streets when the Highlands Steam and Vintage Fair presents a working heritage event for residents and visitors from around NSW.

The Fair will kick off the Oberon and Villages Summer Festival on February 19, paving the way for six weeks of exciting and interesting activities throughout the district.

Fair co-ordinator Jim Hawkes said the fair would feature several new attractions. “We believe it will be brighter and certainly have points of difference from the previous one,” he said.

The Oberon and Villages Summer Festival Community barbecue will be held at the rally grounds on the afternoon of Friday, February 19 from 5pm. Entry is free from that time and you can enjoy a sausage sizzle from the Rotary stand. Oberon Rugby Club will also be part of the afternoon activities. Indulge in the ancient arts of conversation and conviviality with family, friends, neighbours and visitors alike. There’s nothing like a local to give the low down to our visitors on where to find Oberon’s hidden charms and simple lifestyle.

Come and be a part of the fun!

There will be many different events happening around Oberon as part of the Oberon and Villages Summer Festival during that same weekend.

Oberon Museum.

THE Museum board of management is already excited about the part it will play in the 2010 festivities.

If you haven’t visited the museum for some time, you might not recognise it. It has been revamped and displays refreshed in recent months.

“Our grounds are a little different now and this has given us the opportunity to examine our exhibits and bring the better ones to the fore,” a spokesperson said. "We are looking forwarding to the festival as an opportunity to present one of the earliest of the village’s tourism attractions in a new light.”
