New boundary plans put Oberon in Calare

29 Oct, 2009 08:59 AM
Not only will Oberon say goodbye to current Federal Member Bob Debus at the next Federal Election due to his retirement, it is now expected that Oberon will soon become part of the seat of Calare.

The final electoral boundary adjustments, released at the end of last week, show more significant changes to electoral boundaries in the region than the initial adjustments released in August.

The new changes include Mudgee being removed from the Calare electorate while Forbes and Parkes would be be included.

All of Bathurst (currently divided between the seats of Calare and Macquarie), Lithgow and Oberon are still included in the Calare seat.

The formal determination of the new boundaries and names will be gazetted on December 22 this year, but the Oberon Review understands that it is still possible, although highly unlikely, that Oberon will be returned to the Macquarie electorate after the election.

It was originally thought that Calare would become a Labor seat after the release of the initial boundary adjustments.

However with the new adjustments announced last week (including Forbes and Parkes in Calare) the seat is expected to go to the Nationals due to a 3.4 per cent margin.
