Mayfield Garden open for an autumn spectacular

29 Apr, 2010 10:40 AM
Autumn is a season of colours at Mayfield Garden, and for the next three weekends the garden gates will open for all to enjoy the show.

Mayfield Garden, one of the largest privately owned cool climate gardens in the world, is located within a 5000 acre working farm near Oberon on the Mayfield Road.

This extraordinary garden has been developed to make the most of the spring and autumn seasons, with well over 100 acres of maintained gardens, and beyond that, carefully planted woodland.

As the cool air settles into the region, the birch grove, the maples and oaks, the golden and claret ashes and much more, will showcase the autumn colours spectrum from yellow through to scarlet.

Come and enjoy the colours and many other features of the garden, including the cascade, the walled kitchen garden, extensive parterre lawns, the maze and the incredible six acre Water Garden with its waterfalls, stone bridge and obelisk.

“We’re anticipating a strong response to the autumn open weekends,” says Mayfield Garden’s media manager, Karyn Taylor.

“This is the first time we have opened during autumn and we’re looking forward to showing visitors the wonderful textures and colours of the changing seasons,” she says.

A light lunch of Mayfield Premium beef dishes will be on sale, as will local gourmet coffee and tea and cold drinks.

The entire garden is rarely open to the public, so this autumn, come and experience the spectacular colours in Mayfield Garden, open the first three weekends of May, the 1st and 2nd, the 8th and 9th and the 15th and16th.

Entry is $20 per adult, cash only, while children under 16 can enter for free.

There will be temporary toilet facilities, and bus and car parking will be available.

The garden is not wheelchair friendly, and no pets are allowed in the garden.

Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a hat and water.
