League history set for launch

29 Oct, 2009 08:58 AM
Three long years of hard work has finally paid off for local writer Wendy Casey, with her book about the history of rugby league in Oberon published and about to be launched.

Wendy's 344-page book “Tiger Territory: A History of Oberon Rugby League" is jam-packed with the fascinating history of Oberon league, recounting in meticulous detail Oberon's glory days on the paddock, with each game and season traced back as far as records go right up until the present.

Wendy's book includes biographies of outstanding players, and lists life members, coaches, players, officials and even Oberon players who went on to play in the big league. Even the illustration of the football jersey-clad Tiger on the cover of the book is local, drawn by Wendy's son, David Casey.

Even better, the book has a very detailed, in depth index so readers can easily find information on specific players or games.

Wendy said despite the huge amount of time and work the book took to complete, she enjoyed writing it and is enjoying finally having the end product.

She said she was awed by the achievements of Oberon’s past in rugby league, making records that to this day remain unbroken, and how the town adored and rallied around the football.

“I was just impressed about the people who have put such an effort into making rugby league in Oberon great,” she said.

One thousand copies of the book, printed by Rick Landers from Landers Publishing, are already ordered and will be for sale at the launch, which will be a highlight of the League Presentation Night on November 14.

The book will be officially launched by legendary Oberon footballer, Tony Paskins.

It will also be available from Arrows Newsagency and from Wendy.
