Health, the hospital and aged care, and a community centre are the primary concerns for Jill Evans, who is standing for council in the coming Oberon Council elections on September 13th 2008.
This is the first time Jill has stood for council and she is very positive and passionate about making improvements to the town she has lived in for 25 years.
“If you want a community centre in Oberon that contains everything our community needs, or if you want sporting facilities in Oberon so you don’t have to drive to Bathurst, vote me into council on September 13th”, she said.
Jill also urges any residents of Oberon that want better health services to vote for her in the coming election.
Jill believes she will be a very positive addition to the Oberon Council.
“I am not an ‘I’ or ‘me’ person. I’d prefer to say ‘us’. I am a people person”, she said.
Jill is already very involved in the Oberon community. She is the Deputy Chair of the Oberon Health Advisory Council, has been a committee member of the Aged Committee since inception, is involved with BreastScreen and the newly formed group for the Community Centre. She was also in the original committee that led to the building of the Hathaway Cottages.
Jill says she is also very dedicated to obtaining better services for the hospital auxiliary.
Jill believes she is very committed to Oberon and loves the climate, the small population, but especially the people of Oberon and her friends.
“I’ll never leave Oberon”, she said.
Jill believes the Bathurst seminar she is attending for would-be councillors to gain knowledge about being involved in council will assist her even more in serving the community.
“We need people on our council who care about water, local business, our children and aged, retirees, and encourage tourism and providing facilities, so people don’t have to leave the area”, Jill said.
Jill feels she has a huge contribution to make to the community.
“We must have a local council who are committed, energetic, plan for the future and have passion to fight for these necessities”, she said.
Council nominations open on the 4th of August and close on the 13th of August.
