The Jesus All About Life campaign which has been running for several weeks across NSW has stirred much interest, some controversy and now some criminal activity. Oberon has seen all of these elements.
There was exceptional interest in the guest speakers at three meetings held by the combined Oberon churches in recent weeks, and at the Bathurst 1000, the Jesus racing team created much lively commentary. TV ads have been generating more discussion.
There has also been controversy about the Jesus All About Life banner on the council building with a protest by councillor Zsuzsanna Handelsmann , who refused to enter the building while the sign is in place. The apology she tendered for missing the meetings, has not been accepted by the other councillors.
Now one of the Jesus All About Life banners has been stolen from the Christian Life Centre Church. The banner is missing from the photo below. Apparently many of the colourful banners have been stolen in other places - one from the Baptist Church in Bathurst and many from the Central Coast. The members of the CLC church in Oberon are hoping that the thieves will read their new banner and receive its message.
The Jesus All About Life program is continuing this week with the first of five weekly discussion groups, each week being led by a different minister from the town. A light meal and a brief DVD presentation will precede the discussions. This event will be at St Barnabas Anglican Church, but the various events have been shared by all the Oberon churches in what has been a first-ever all-church town-wide Jesus campaign.
