It is the end a blooming beautiful era

28 Jan, 2010 09:07 AM
It is the end of a blooming era this month for keen gardener Brenda Lyon, who has finally handed over the reins of her very well-known daffodil business.

Brenda has been passionately perfecting the art of growing daffodils for over 20 years, and is not only known for being the first to call if you need a mind-boggling number of bulbs, but is also the owner of a very beautiful garden that locals and visitors alike flock to to find out if there really is that many kinds of daffodils.

Brenda is very positive about her retirement, having bought a house out of Oberon, and is looking forward to travelling, or as she puts it, ‘adventure before dementia’.

The bordering-on-famous business is now in the hands of Lin Boswell, who is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed about taking the business to new heights. Lin has just moved into Brenda’s home and is the new caretaker of the beautiful garden and countless daffodils.

Lin bought the block next to Brenda and was ready to build her own house and begin a lavender farm, but she decided to seize the wonderful opportunity of furthering the daffodil business, which have always been such an integral part of Oberon’s character.

Lin is excited about the opportunity and said that the daffodil and lavender businesses, which she is planning to extend, will compliment each other.

“Daffodils have opened up a whole new world to me,” she said.

Lin has always loved the country, and sees Oberon as a developing area.

The long term plans for the business include creating a French and Tuscan style feel to the house and garden, and also to developing the cafe side of the business, where visitors to the garden during Spring can enjoy some excellent coffee and tasty delights after experiencing the garden in all its splendour. Lin is also planning High Teas at the garden from Saturday, September 4 to 26 this year.

Lin will be selling bulbs at a number of different markets over the next couple of months, including the Oberon markets in April.

Lin said she has enjoyed working with Brenda and is pleased she is staying on as a consultant. Lin will also have an onsite manager to care for

the garden.

The business will still be called Brenda Lyon Specialty Bulbs for a time, but Lin said despite the change in ownership, it is business as usual and there are 102 varieties of daffodils available this year.

“I am looking forward to meeting everyone,” she said.

Lin can be contacted for orders or just to say hello on 6336 1282, or by email enquiries@daffodils.com.au, or visit www.daffodils.com.au
