If wildlife need help, give the Lyles a call

It is not very often that you see a group of young kangaroos lounging in the sun in a front yard in the middle of Oberon, but it is an everyday occurrence in John and Sandra Lyle’s life.

John and Sandra dedicate their waking hours, and give up many of their sleeping ones, to caring for young native wildlife, whether it be birds, kangaroos, wallabies or wombats.

Currently they are caring for 15 young kangaroos, six of which are still in pouches, two wombats and two owls.

John and Sandra care for wildlife that have been injured, such as on roads, or whose mothers have been killed, and they invite the Oberon community to call them if they come across injured or abandoned young wildlife.

Their message is very simple – if you accidentally hit a kangaroo or other wildlife on the road, give John and Sandra a call on 6336 5286 or 0418 687 735 so they can come and check the animal, as well as checking for young.

You don’t have to wait around for them to arrive; just give them the details of where it is and drive on. If you drive past and see dead or injured wildlife, please call them so that it can be checked, as young in pouches can live for many days after their mother has been killed.
