Historic biscuit van rolls into the station

22 Oct, 2009 08:12 AM
OBERON Tarana Heritage Railway’s first item of rolling stock arrived at the Oberon Station at the weekend. It is a rare Arnott’s Biscuit Van.

According to an expert on heritage rolling stock in this State, the van was built in the early 1900s and operated as a cattle truck before being converted to a biscuit van in the early 1960s.

It is fitted with masonite interior panelling. It was then used to transport biscuit products from the Arnott’s factory siding at North Strathfield to various locations throughout NSW. The van continued to be used until the 1980s.

The van is an exciting acquisition and OTHR plans to restore it to working condition and it will form part of a static heritage display of rare railway vehicles to be housed at Oberon Railway Station. Members are looking forward to more rolling stock items arriving shortly.
