Get your walking shoes on for charity

Get your walking shoes on for charity

27 Aug, 2009 10:43 AM
Do you love a good walk in the morning, or when you get home from work?

You can raise money for the less fortunate simply by doing your usual morning or afternoon walk!

Supporters of Father Riley's Youth Off The Streets organisation are planning another fundraiser to help this great Australian charity.

This is a registered Australian charity working for young people who are chronically homeless, drug dependant or recovering from abuse. The organisation was founded by Father Chris Riley, who supports these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal traumas such as neglect and physical, psychological and emotional abuse.

Youth Off The Streets offers a range of services and programs from delivery of meals to homeless youth living on the streets at Kings Cross, to residential programs involving education and vocational training. It also includes outreach services that respond to the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of youth in a way that respects the dignity of each individual without reference to race or creed.

It is now four years since Oberon completed their amazing 100 day walk raising in excess of $50,000 as part of the overall fundraiser. With so many active walkers in Oberon and surrounding areas, you can help a worthwhile charity as you improve your health and fitness.

Ask relatives, friends, business houses and work colleagues to sponsor you as you undertake this year's 40 Day Walk.

You can walk for any time or distance every day for 40 days, from the 21st of September until the 30th of October.

Participation forms are available from next Monday at the Oberon Post Office and Arrows Newsagency.

This wonderful event will finish with a bang at the Bush Dance at Black Springs on the 30th of October.

With local talent donating their services for this special occasion, this family dance will be one not to miss.

So organise your walking buddies and pick up a form, and mark the 30th of October of your calender.
