Oberon Council and the Oberon Plateau Tourism Association will officially open the Beginners Luck Fossicking Patch on Wednesday, April 20.
The fossicking patch is located in the grounds of the Oberon Visitor Information Centre, on the corner of Ross Street and Edith Road, Oberon.
Fossicking for precious gemstones such as sapphires and zircons is a must-do activity for anyone visiting the Oberon region.
The fossicking patch has been created to introduce people to the fascinating world of gemstone fossicking and to provide a firsthand, learning experience of the processes involved.
Everyone is welcome to attend the opening of The Patch to celebrate this great addition to Oberon’s many established attractions.
The event will begin at 3pm with a sausage sizzle prepared by Visitor Information Centre staff.
The official opening will follow at 3.15pm and conclude at around 3:45 pm.
At the conclusion of the official opening, local school children will experience a hands-on demonstration of the art of fossicking with guidance from Visitor Information Centre staff.
This is sure to be an entertaining and informative afternoon, showcasing this exciting new addition to the tourism attractions of the Oberon region.
