THE Oberon Men's Shed group has received a welcome boost with $4500 in federal funding provided from the Australian Men's Shed organisation.
The funding is for equipment for the Oberon Men's Shed. Group members will decide what equipment they need to carry out their projects.
The members have been busy working on turning one of the disused pavilions at the Oberon Showground into a workshop and meeting place.
There have already been donations of building materials for the reconstruction of the shed but more timber, doors, windows and other quality building materials are needed to help with their project.
The planned workshop will be a place where men in the Oberon community can go at any time of the day, so they can work on their own projects or even just to read the paper in peace.
The Men's Shed group is always looking for new members to join in the project, or even just to meet other locals and catch up.
Oberon Council Economic Development Officer Mike Massey said that Men's Shed is not a place where people come to do hard labour, and is not just for single men.
He said it is somewhere to come and become involved in a relaxed male social group.
"It's a place to come in their spare time, and have a chat and a cup of tea," he said.
