Prime lambs will return to this month’s 108th Oberon Show program after an absence stretching back several years.
Show Association president Beryl Gibbons said the show society had wanted to bring the lambs back for some time.
“Lambs and sheep are a vital part of the district’s rural economy, and it is only right that they should have their place in the show,” she said.
“It was disappointing when they dropped out of our show program, but now we have been able to put that right.”
Organisers of the show, to be held on Friday and Saturday, February 15-16, had to cancel the usual two days of equestrian events because of quarantine restrictions following last year’s equine influenza outbreak.
Instead they will hold an inaugural vintage and veteran heritage rally, which will include traction engines, miniature steam engines, military vehicles and vintage tractors, cars and bikes.
The tractors will take part in events including a pulling competition and ploughing match.
There will also be pavilion classes, and of course, the haven for the young and young at heart, sideshow alley.
Friday’s events will culminate in a fireworks display.
The Saturday program will include a 200-class bird and poultry show, and all-breed championship dog show (which last year drew entries from interstate) commercial and beef cattle classes, yard dog trials, and a ute muster.
The show will close with an evening bull ride.
