Friends of Oberon Library is among four community organisations in Oberon which will receive funding from the Australian Government Volunteer Grants 2009 initiative, the Federal Member for Macquarie, Bob Debus, said yesterday.
“The grants will provide valuable support to organisations that are vital to the Oberon community,” Mr Debus said.
“These grants provide a variety of opportunities for local volunteer organisations, covering essentials such as new equipment, tools, fuel, furniture and computers among many others.”
“In Oberon volunteer grants will be used to purchase equipment such as a computer, projector and refrigerator for the Rotary Club of Oberon.
“Volunteers are the backbone of so many of our non-profit organisations and make a real and lasting difference in the lives of so many people in our community.
“The Australian Government values the enormous contribution of volunteers in Oberon and this funding will ease the financial pressure on non-profit organisations and their volunteers,” said Mr Debus.
More than 6700 community organisations across Australia will benefit from $21 million in volunteer grants.
Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are provided to non-profit organisations to support their volunteers and encourage volunteering.
