THERE was surprise at last Tuesday’s Oberon council meeting when the controversial development application to formalise the use of existing land and building at 59-61 Carrington Avenue was withdrawn.
The application had sparked enormous dispute, with the owners of the land seeking approval of the council to store vehicles and machinery and minor maintenance of vehicles and machinery.
The application excited strong opposition, with concerned neighbours and other members of the Oberon community fearing noise and fume pollution, as well as damage to the aesthetic value of the street.
It was resolved at the council meeting that an offer of an appropriate equivalent sized parcel of land in the industrial estate be made to the applicants, according to council policy.
