ROTARY will again be active at next weekend’s Community markets. The usual hot breakfast will be available, as will the fresh lamb. Be early for the best cuts.

A RECENT speaker at Rotary was Mike Massey of Oberon Council. He covered several aspects of his job as Economic Development Officer.
He recapped the interest shown in Oberon at the recent Country Week display in Sydney. One couple were visiting Oberon the day after the display to check out accommodation and jobs. Well done to Mike and all the volunteers manning the stall.
He also mentioned the industries investigating Oberon as a site for their activities. The main ones were a tank manufacturer and, believe it or not, a hydroponic tomato producer. The latter has been mentioned in the press several times since the talk, and Mike was able to talk us through the process of attracting such industries, as well as some details of the operations.

TIM Graham was also a recent speaker, having just returned from two-and-a-half years as a volunteer in Vanuatu. He outlined the range of Australian government funded volunteer schemes, and his impressions of living and working in Vanuatu.
It seems a great place to live (warm all year, beautiful beaches, friendly people) but a little difficult to get things done to a schedule. Time is mostly irrelevant, and the lifestyle very laid back. However, he seemed to enjoy the experience.

MEMBERS of the community who completed Bowelscan kits should have received their results by now. Throughout the Central West, the number of positive responses (i.e. need to further consult with a doctor) was a little more than last year (from three to 12) and included people from the under 45 and 46/55 age groups. Also, about two thirds of the positive results were males.
If you have any questions about the program in Oberon, please contact the Rotary Club.
