Oberon is famous for its gorgeous daffodils, and these lovely sunny flowers are again the centre of a campaign to fight cancer.
Harold Ford is continuing his mission to “Give cancer the boot” with his wonderful array of daffodils in boots to sell and raise funds and awareness for cancer.
Harold came up with the concept in 1999, where he began filling second-hand boots with potting mix and planting daffodils, as well as decorating the outside. Last year Harold was assisted in his efforts by the artistic talents of the staff and inmates of the Kirkconnell Correctional Facility.
The early spring that many flowers in the district seem to have sensed has thrown Harold’s whole plan out of whack, as the flowers usually bloom to be at their best for the Cancer Council Daffodil Day on August 22.
The boots are meticulously painted and flowers planted and cared for by the inmates of the Kirkconnell Correctional Facility, and this year the 250 daffodils began to bud early and are therefore for sale earlier.
These lovely creations are on sale at the Oberon Council Chambers in the main street for $5 a boot.
Cancer research is very worthy cause and Harold encourages the Oberon community to get involved and buy one of these wonderful creations.
