OBERON residents will need to switch to free-to-air digital TV earlier than other parts of Southern NSW.
Broadcasters have advised that the early switch to digital TV for Oberon and surrounding areas will take place in February.
The early switchover is necessary because the equipment at Oberon’s local self-help TV transmitter needs to be replaced so that the new digital TV services can be provided.
To install the new equipment, the analog TV signal in the local area will be switched off. When the new equipment has been installed and switched on, only digital TV services will be available. This process is usually completed on the same day.
Because of the early switchover, households should get ready for digital TV now. To continue watching free-to-air TV after analog signals are switched off, households and businesses will need to ensure their TVs can receive the digital signal by either:
n Connecting a set-top box or digital TV recorder to their existing analog TV, or
n Using a TV with a built-in digital tuner.
To find out about digital television coverage that serves the area, residents should go to the mySwitch application at www.digitalready.gov.au.
Residents should enter their full address in mySwitch to retrieve specific information about digital TV coverage for their location. The site also includes contact information for Digital Advisers and Australian Endorsed Antenna Installers in the area.
Should residents not have access to the internet, or have problems using it, they can call the Digital Ready Information Line on 1800 20 10 13 for help. This service will also assist in assessing which residents are affected by the early switchover.
