Oberon has not had to wait long for a new dentist, with the arrival of Henriette Macri-Etienne this week at the Oberon Dental Surgery, ready to begin work on September 23.
Ms Macri-Etienne is part of a three-dentist team from Waratah Dental in Lithgow who have made a commitment to visit Oberon as part of a service to more remote regions.
She will be bringing with her state-of-the-art equipment as well as team of highly trained staff, all with a commitment to providing a relaxed and comfortable visit for Oberon people.
Ms Macri-Etienne said they are also planning to attract specialist surgeons, so that locals may not need to travel to Sydney to see a specialist, as well as providing a high standard of service.
She said not only will her team allow generous amounts of time for patients, but they will also focus on educating people about dental care instead of just fixing the immediate problem.
This is evident in the team’s recent visits to Oberon schools giving free teeth check ups for students.
Ms Macri-Etienne said they want to get more involved in the local community, which will include dealing with doctors and also getting in contact with day care centres about teaching dental hygiene to young children.
In the short term, the service will begin with the basics, but Ms Macri-Etienne hopes, with support from the community, that it will provide a great local service.
Initially the clinic will be open every Thursday, but if there is the demand, the clinic may be open more often.
Two or three vacant appointments will be kept to cater for emergencies.
Contact 6336 0902 any day of the week, and appointments can made for Thursdays.
