The Oberon community is in shock after hearing Oberon born and bred Darren Miller, a licensed electrician, is dead after being electrocuted installing cabling in the roof of his home at Georges Plains.
The tragedy occurred just before midday last Saturday at Mr Miller’s home in St John’s Close.
Darren is the son of Don and Shirley (deceased) Miller of Oberon.
Inspector Mick Aldridge from Bathurst Police said the matter is under investigation, but it appears the man was electrocuted because the cabling he was installing was live.
“We know what happened, we have yet to work out why it happened,” Inspector Aldridge said.
“Everyone who was working with the man believed the cabling wasn’t live,” he said.
Inspector Aldridge said the people working with Mr Miller immediately began CPR on him, while paramedics and police rushed to the scene.
NSW Ambulance personnel responded immediately, but when crews arrived, nothing could be done to help Mr Miller, who suffered severe internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inspector Aldridge said police have been able to rule out an electrical strike [from the storm which lashed the region at the same time] as the cause of electrocution. He said police are still trying to establish why the cabling was live.
Inspector Aldridge said investigations are continuing and a report is currently being prepared for the coroner.
Mr Miller will be deeply missed by his partner Di, daughter Jessica, step-sons Brad and Ryan, father Don, sisters Debbie, Christine, Raelene, brother Anthony, and their families.
