Daffodils herald start of spring festival

02 Sep, 2010 11:01 AM
The daffodils are blooming and that means just one thing - the wonderful Oberon and Villages Spring Garden Festival is upon us.

This year’s festival will be bigger than ever and will stretch from this weekend to the end of November, jam packed with many exciting events.

The festival kicks off this weekend with the opening of Falkirk Daffodil Garden. This famous cool-climate garden is brimming with more than 2500 different varieties of daffodils amidst a profusion of other blooms.

Come and spend time in the garden, wandering about delighting in the many unusual and unique varieties of daffodils. You can also select and purchase potted daffodils. New owner Lin Boswell has also added a new boutique shop 'The Greenhouse' to the garden, which will entice visitors with Australian lavender products, homemade jams and a range of bees wax candles.

Visitors can enjoy a country-style Devonshire tea, or a locally-made gourmet sausage in a roll.

Falkirk Daffodil Garden will be open daily from 10am until 4pm, beginning this Saturday, September 4.

Garden entrance will be $5 per person and there is ample parking for cars and buses.

The Oberon and Villages Spring Garden Festival will include many exciting events over the spring months, including Daffodils at Rydal, the Annual Flower Show at St Barnabas Anglican Church hall, open gardens in and around Oberon, farmers markets, the Tarana Red Cross Art Show, Trunkey Creek’s 28th Annual Wool and Horse Festival, a Champagne and Pudding Open Garden Day, events at Jenolan Caves and, of course, three weekends where magnificent Mayfield Gardens will be open.

For more information on the festival, please call the friendly staff at the Oberon Visitor Information Centre on 63298210 or visit www.oberonfestivals.com.au
