Council ready for battle to protect our water

15 Oct, 2009 08:53 AM
Oberon Council is on the warpath this week with the news that State Water may allow the Oberon Dam level to drop to five per cent of capacity before finding other water supplies to feed their major water customers, such as Delta Electricity.

Oberon mayor Keith Sullivan is concerned about the possibility, and is adamant that the major customers must use alternative water sources as soon as possible to allow the dam to recover and ensure a stable water supply for Oberon.

Cr Sullivan believes State Water intends to continuing using Oberon Dam water and that it is relying on the hope that continued rain will maintain the dam supply.

A senior delegate from State Water will attend the council meeting next Tuesday, October 20, to discuss the water situation.

Cr Sullivan has urged Oberon residents to come to the meeting at 5:30pm to voice their concerns.

“We are asking all residents who are concerned about the water situation to come to the meeting, and they may get a chance to ask questions,” he said.
