Choice of seven for Calare

19 Aug, 2010 11:20 AM
OBERON electors will have the choice of seven candidates when they vote in the federal election on Saturday to help decide who will represent the new electorate of Calare.

The Calare candidates are: the current member and Nationals candidate John Cobb, Labor's Kevin Duffy, The Green's Jeremy Buckingham, the Christian Democratic Party's Jessyca Norsworthy and independents Paul Blanch, Karen Romano and Macgregor Ross.

Centrebet's latest odds on the federal election, as of Wednesday, put Labor as favourites on $1.28 to win, followed by the Coalition on $3.65.

The latest odds for the Calare have Nationals candidate John Cobb as the hot $1.14 favourite, followed by Kevin Duffy on $9 and Karen Romano on $10.

Paul Blanch follows on $15, and further down the line Jeremy Buckingham sits on $161. Centrebet has the remaining candidates on $201.

Locals have the choice of voting at several locations across our local government area, including at Black Springs Primary School in Avoca Street, Black Springs, Burraga Hall on the corner of Lloyd Street and Edgar Hanrahan Drive, Burraga, O'Connell Public School, 15 Black Mills Lane, O'Connell, Oberon High School, Ross Street, Oberon, and Rockley Public School, Hill Street, Rockley.

Polling will be open between 8am and 6pm on Saturday.

Voters wishing to vote early can pre-poll in Bathurst, at the pre-polling station at 211 Howick Street, next to the NRMA.

It will be open today from 8:30pm to 5:30pm, and tomorrow, Friday, from 8:30am to 6pm.

Electors need to vote for two houses in Parliament. First, voters are required to vote for the House of Representatives, which will be a green form to vote for a representative for Calare.

Voters will be required to number boxes from one through to seven for their vote to count, with one being their first preference and seven their last.

To vote for the Senate, voters will receive a long white ballot paper. Voters can either place a number one in a box above the line for the party that is their first preference, or number all boxes below the line.
