THE future of the Oberon multi-purpose community centre is still unsure, with action regarding the location and layout of the facility being deferred by Oberon Council.
After months of submissions and comments made by the Oberon community regarding Concept One of the plans, which utilises the existing library building, community centre and dental site, and Concept Two, which utilises only the existing library, it is clear that Concept Two is the preferred plan.
Concept Two also will cost around $434,000 less than Concept One.
It was recommended at the council meeting on Tuesday night that the proposed site for the centre be the existing library, community centre and dental site, that Concept Plan Two as presented by Architect Sue McGregor be endorsed by Council, and that the council investigate funding opportunities for the centre.
However, it was later resolved at the meeting that the multi-purpose community centre issues be deferred to a special meeting at a date to be set to enable the elected members time to gather information and be properly briefed with the view of allowing informed discussion.
It was also decided that council staff be asked to evaluate the opportunity of potential for obtaining grant funding for the project.
It was also resolved that the committee be thanked for their input.
