Lorraine and Russell Merriman are celebrating a very successful first year of their store Central West Care Oberon, and have given to the community in every possible way.
Lorraine and Russell moved to Oberon in 2006 to retire, but said they opened the bargain centre in May of 2008 after Pastor Andrew Godden suggested the store be opened as an outreach of the Christian Life Centre Church.
Lorraine and Russell said the aim of the store is to help the people of the community.
“It's a great feeling to be able to help somebody,” said Lorraine.
The store relies completely on the generosity of the Oberon community and stocks a plethora of second hand goods, from furniture and clothes, to toys and teddies, baby clothes, books, videos and DVDs, household appliances and manchester.
The store is not only a must for many of those in need in the community, it is also a favourite of many shoppers for the excellent and quality stock available at a bargain price.
Unlike many other second hand stores, the bargain centre stocks some truly beautiful and quality pieces donated by people from the community.
“This is how we know are accepted by the community,” said Russell.
Once their costs are covered, Lorraine and Russell are constantly donating funds to many different organisations and causes around the town, such as donating funds to all the schools.
The bargain centre also plays host to a craft day every Wednesday from 10:30 until 12:30pm.
Lorraine and Russell wish to thank those in the community who have supported them by donating goods.
Lorraine and Russell are always looking volunteers to help in the store. Those interested in helping out can call the centre on 6336 0099.
