Big weekend to celebrate Burraga’s history

23 Apr, 2009 08:59 AM
This is this kind of unique history and character that will be celebrated at the wonderful Back to Burraga weekend to be held this Saturday and Sunday.

The Burraga weekend has been organised by the Burraga School P and C and Burraga District and Community Association.

Come and unwind and catch up with locals at a dance at the Community Hall on Saturday night from 7pm. The evening will include a light supper, music, a slide show and an auction with all proceeds going to the P and C and BDCA. The cost is $10 per person or $25 per family - BYO alcohol. Tickets will be sold at the door on the night, but tables can be booked at the Burraga School or at the Burraga Shop.

Come and celebrate the rich and colourful history of Burraga when a time capsule buried in 1982 is opened on Sunday, April 26. A new time capsule will also be buried to commemorate the celebrations, and visitors and locals are invited to bring along items to be added to a new time capsule.

There will be display of photographs and videos of former students of the school, and also an Anzac Service to be held at the Cenotaph from 11am.

The wonderful weekend will be wrapped up with a barbecue lunch at the Burraga Sports and Recreation Club and in typical Australian style, a community game of cricket.

As part of celebrating Burraga's past, a Community Pathway will also be started, where individuals or families can purchase a brick inscribed to be a part of the pathway.

Come and catch up with old school friends and celebrate this wonderful community.

Please RSVP to Sandra Stapleton on 6337 0296, Anthony Francis on 63370293 or Burraga School 63370275.
