Bed licences key to aged facility

29 Oct, 2009 09:01 AM
The future of an aged care facility in Oberon hangs on whether Oberon receives bed licences.

Last week general manager of Oberon Council Bruce Fitzpatrick, mayor Keith Sullivan and Member for Macquarie Bob Debus reinforced Oberon’s very strong need for an aged care facility to Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot.

It was made clear that Oberon was well prepared for the facility, including having purchased the land and having an approved development application for the facility.

Federal Member for Macquarie Bob Debus said that he was pleased to enable the Oberon mayor and general manager to clearly state council’s concerns to the Minister.

Mr Debus said the Minister said she would keep in touch.

Applications for bed licences will open in the coming month, and the second round of bed licences along with zero interest loans will also be offered after that.

Council has said they have done everything they can possibly do to ensure Oberon gets bed licences, and now all that can be done is to apply for the second round and wait for the verdict.
