A personal best for Sherlock at Homebush

19 Nov, 2009 08:21 AM
The NSW All Schools’ Secondary Athletics Carnival was held from the November 5 to 8 at Homebush Olympic Stadium.

Connor Sherlock competed in the boys’ 16 year shot put and discus events, representing Oberon High School and NSW Western Region.

He took out the top award in shot put, winning the gold medal with a massive personal best throw of 15.25 metres.

Connor also gained a fifth place in the finals of discus, achieving another personal best.

He now qualifies for the NSW team for the Australian National All Schools Meet in Hobart in December.

Connor has had a fantastic year in athletics, winning gold at the Combined High Schools Athletics Carnival for discus and silver for shot put at Homebush in September.

He was also awarded a ‘Lone Star’ Scholarship with the Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) for his achievements in these two throwing events, which gives him the opportunity to attend further athletic meets and get some expert coaching from the best in NSW.
